Eye Injury

On July 5th Lauren was getting ready for bed and started saying her eye was bothering her. She woke up July 6th Monday and her first day of Zoo camp to a very red eye but nothing more.
By the afternoon Drue calls me and said she has something going on with her eye. Being the good little nurse I am I drop by the pharmacy and pick up the viral pink eye drops. I was sure it was viral pink eye due to the way it was acting. All night I put in the drops as well as lubricating drops.
On the morning of July 7th I got up to go to work, went to check on lauren and saw her eye had been pouring with fluid, her sheets were soaked! I knew this was more than pink eye. Drue took off for the day and we debated if we should take her to the Pediatrician or a doc in the box? Our ped is all the way in Trussville and we just thought we needed a little abx cream for her eye. I ended up just calling her eye doctor and asked if they would see her and they said yes.
Drue called me several hours later to let me know Lauren had a piece of metal in her Iris and it had rusted and they were going to have to go in and get it out.
Lauren handled it like a trooper.
The theory is on July 3rd they were doing sparklers while we were shooting fireworks, the doctor thinks a piece of metal from the sparkler broken off into her eye.

After three days of repeated trips to the eye doctor, she still has some rust in her eye but it's just too deep for them to get out. We will just wait and see if it comes out on it's own or it just dissolves.
Not feeling so good!

Last day at the eye doctor
